Gad Avrahami was born in kibbutz Shamir, Israel in 1952. He studied composition with Prof. Leon Schidlowsky at the Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, where he received his MA degree in 1987. During his study he won several awards.

His orchestral, choral and chamber music was performed in Israel, Holland, Germany, Scotland, Turkey and Hong Kong. His music was also broadcasted in those countries, and was recorded on CDs. His Trio No. 2 for bass clarinet, cello and piano was performed at the ISCM World Music Days Hong Kong 2002. His Resurrection for mixed choir, bass clarinet & 3 percussion players, to a poem by Yehuda Amichai, was performed in Holland in 2002 at several concerts. In 2005 he received the Prime Minister award for composers in Israel.

Avrahami’s music is influenced by Alban Berg and Olivier Messiaen. In his music he strives to contend with the atonal heritage, but in a clearer melodic and harmonic manner. He combines it with literal techniques of 'mixing times', 'close ups' and with elements from jazz.
