Dganit Elyakim

Dganit Elyakim Dganit Elyakim (born in Tel-Aviv, 1977) is a composer and sound-artist. Her music depicts various aspects of the human and digital paradigm. Through MIDI protocols and algorithmically based behaviours of the computer-performer she confronts the human musician with a digital based reality. She is a co-founder of the new media ensemble “Turing Dames”. Over the past few years she has also focused her attention on integrating the Net’s audio archives into her compositions as well as writing so called “net operas” - multi-chapter pieces written exclusively for the web.

Elyakim was awarded the Israeli Prime Minister's Prize in 2011. While studying Dganit was granted scholarships from the America-Israel-Cultural-Foundation. In 2014 she also won a prize for the best sound track in Acco Festival for alternative Israeli theatre. Her music was featured at events and venues such as Ars Electronica (Linz), Wallpaper Festival (Italy), Gaudeamus Festival (Amsterdam), KOMA Festival, (Belgrade), Kölner Musiknacht (Cologne), Steim (Amsterdam), Dunia Cafe (Istanbul), Tel-Aviv Museum, Israel Festival (Jerusalem) and HaTeiva (Tel Aviv).

Elyakim graduated in Music and Philosophy at the Haifa University under the supervision of Prof. Arik Shapira. She has studied to complete a postgraduate composition degree, as well as electronic music, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague under the supervision of Matrijn Padding, Gilius van Bergeijk and Clarence Barlow.
