Amit Weiner

Amit Weiner Amit Weiner was born in 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel. At the age of seven he began studying piano and than guitar, and at age 16 began to study at the Jersalem Academy of Music Highschool, under the supervision of Miss Larisa Baikin. He received his Master degree in composition at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, studying with Prof Haim Permont, Dr. Ari Ben-Shabtai, and Dr. Vladimir Scolnic, and his Ph.D in Composition at Bar - Ilan University with Prof Gideon Levensohn, and Prof Betty Olivero. Since 2004, Work as a member of the Faculty at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Teaches also at Mizmor College for Contemporary Music, and at the Jerusalem Academy of Music highschool.

Active as a composer, pianist, arranger, and musical producer.

As composer: Active both in the field of classical music and of popular music. His works and arrangements have been performed in major Israeli concert venues, and outside Israel, among them the Jerusalem Theatre (Israeli Music Festival), in the Aviv Competitions, at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Jerusalem Music Centre, Haifa University, at Bar Ilan University, the Be’er Sheva Performing Arts Center, the JAMD concert halls, and more. Outside Israel his music was performed in Hong Kong and Macau (China), among others.
Likewise, his compositions and arrangements have been played in light music clubs and halls, such as the “Yellow Submarine” (Jerusalem), Levontin 7 (Tel Aviv), Beit Avi Chai (Jerusalem), the Simta Theatre (Jaffa), and more. Ensembles which have played his works include the Jerusalem Chamber Orchestra, the Kaprisma Ensemble, the Ariel Quartet, the Nitzan Choir, the Ankor Choir; leading Israeli musicians who have performed his works – Omer Welber, Doron Salomon, Yaniv Dinur, Michael Wolpe, Ofer Chelef and many more singers and players. He regularly writes symphonic arrangements of popular music for concerts of the Be’er Sheva Symphonette and other ensembles.
In November 2012, Amit has got a commission to score the soundtrack of the film "Breaking Home Ties", that was premiered live with the composer at the piano and melodic, in the Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival, for two performances: at the opening night of the festival, in an out-door performance at Cyber-port Hong Kong, and a second performance in Macau.
His oeuvre includes some 25 orchestral and chamber works and 30 arrangements of Israeli songs for various and varied ensembles.As pianist – Has appeared regularly at the Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival, the “Sounds in the Desert” Festival, the “Room Dance” Festival, at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Eden-Tamir Music Center (Jerusalem), the Henry Crown Auditorium and Rebecca Crown Hall (Jerusalem Theatre), the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater (Tel Aviv), the Gerard Behar Performance Center (Jerusalem), at the 2011 Jerusalem Film Festival, at official events of the Israel Knesset; is working regularly as accompanist for the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (Israel Broadcasting Authority) and for different choirs. Has appeared as guest artist with the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble, the Be’er Sheva Symphonette and with the JAMD Orchestra. In 2007, performed as soloist in his work “The Lights of Jerusalem” - a concerto for piano, clarinet and orchestra - with The Israel Camerata Jerusalem. Has recorded frequently both as composer and pianist for The Voice of Music (IBA), and appeared in Israeli radio and TV, as well as Hong Kong radio and Macau TV.
Since 2012 elected as a board member of the Israel Composers' League.
